    THIS SEASON: Whitney Hentzen, a 2008 senior, is coming off of her first NCAA Championships appearance, looking to make the leap from NCAA point scorer to All-American. Best in the mile, she is also talented in the 500y free.

    2007: As a 2007 junior, Hentzen became an NCAA Championships individual point scorer for the first time with a 13th-place finish in the 1650y free (16:16.75) in a personal best time ... She was also 21st in the 500y free (4:46.21) in another personal best effort and swam on USC's 800y free relay ... At the 2007 Pac-10 Championships, Hentzen was fifth in the 1650y free in 16:21.80, her best conference finish and a then-personal best. She was also 12th in the 500y free (4:48.37) and 36th in the 200y free (1:51.97) ... At the 2007 U.S. Summer Nationals, she was 27th in the 800m free (8:51.08) and 53rd in the 400m free (4:21.52).

    2006: Hentzen again swam in three races at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships as a sophomore. Her eighth-place finish in the 1650y free (16:43.12) gives her two career top 8 results at the conference meet. She was also 22nd in the 500y free (4:56.68) and 46th in the 200y free (1:54.16) ... She raced in the 800m free at the 2006 U.S. Summer Nationals ... She earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors.

    2005: Hentzen raced in three events at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, taking seventh in the 1650y free (16:38.55), 14th in the 500y free (4:51.48) and 30th in the 200y free (1:53.27). Her time of 16:33.56 at the Texas Invitational was USC's second-fastest of the year in the mile ... At the 2005 U.S. Summer Nationals, she was 40th in the 1500m free (17:15.27), 49th in the 800m free (9:00.10) and 57th in the 400m free (4:26.99).

    HIGH SCHOOL: A national finalist while still at La Serna High, Hentzen posted a pair of top-eight finishes at U.S. Nationals in her prep career, fifth in the 1500m free and sixth in the 800m free ... Named the Whittier Daily News Athlete of the Year as a senior and won a Southern Section CIF title in the 500y free as well ... She was among the top 25 students in her class all four years in high school ... Also a member of the U.S. National Junior team ... Competed in the 400m and 800m free at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials.

    PERSONAL: She was born on Aug. 1, 1986 ... Her father Chris played football at Texas A&M ... She is a public policy, management and planning major.
