    Lauren Cowan is proof that big things come in small packages as the redshirt senior enters her fifth season in the USC program and fourth with the varsity squad... as the Trojans' most experienced coxswain, Cowan will provide valuable leadership to the Varsity Eight boat... in 2007, coxed the Varsity Eight to one of the most successful seasons in program history while being selected as the 2007 CRCA All-West Region First Team Coxswain, and the 2007 CRCA Pocock All-America Second Team Coxswain... her boat won the coveted Jessop-Whittier Cup at the 2007 San Diego Crew Classic (only the second time in USC history) and was also crowned the Pac-10 Champion after convincingly winning the Grand Final... contributed to bringing the Trojans their first Pac-10 Conference team championship and secured the second team bid to the NCAA Championships in school history... her Varsity Eight remained undefeated until the final race of the season... coxed the winning boat in the fours competition at the 2006 Head of the American Regatta... in 2006, coxed the JV Eight to a victory over Clemson and a sixth place finish at the Pac-10 Championships... in 2005, she took a medical redshirt... in 2004, coxed the Novice Eight crew as a co-team captain.

    Rowing Highlights:
    Cowan coxed in the Vesper Pre-Elite training program in 2006... leading her boat to a first place finish in the Junior B Eight, second in the Champion Eight, third in the Senior Eight and fourth in the 500-meter dash... took first in the 2006 Independence Day Regatta Open Eight... in 2004, competed with the Vesper Boat Club (Philadelphia, Pa.) earning first place finishes in Eights at the Schuylkill Navy Regatta (Philadelphia), and in Eights and Fours at the Independence Day Regatta (Philadelphia)... placed first in Women's Senior B Eights and second in Women's Senior Eights at the Royal Canadian Henley (Ontario, Canada) in 2004... a three-year coxswain with the Marina Aquatic Center and the Los Angeles Rowing Club masters program (2000-03)... coxed LARC crew at 2002 Head of the Charles... one of only five coxswains selected to attend the U.S. Junior National Team Selection Camp in 2002 and 2003... was invited to the 2006 U23 National Team Summer Camp...attended the 2007 U23 National Team Selection Camp.

    Lauren Erin Cowan was born in Palm Springs, Calif... a 2003 graduate of Concord High in Santa Monica, Calif... has one brother, Ian and one sister, Rachel... twice was awarded the Governor's Scholarship Award (2000, 2001) and selected to attend the National Student Leadership Conference, National Young Leadership Conference and the National Youth Leadership Forum... majoring in Neuroscience... would like to pursue a career in physical therapy.
