THIS SEASON: 2003 junior J.D. Abercrombie, is one of USC's most improved in the butterfly and hopes to become an NCAA point-scorer in addition to his duties at the Pac-10 meet. He will swim for the U.S. at the 2003 World University Games.
2002: Abercrombie competed in three events at the 2002 Pac-10s, scoring points by taking 18th in both the 100y fly (49.90) and the 200y fly (1:50.63) and 28th in the 200y IM (1:54.84) ... His top 200y fly time of the year, a 1:47.73 at the Texas Invitational, was good for NCAA consideration ... At the 2002 Summer Nationals, he was sixth in the 100m fly (53.93) and 16th in the 200m fly (2:03.63).
2001: Abercrombie mainly provided depth for the Trojans as a 2001 freshman, but came on after the athletic season ... He finalled in the 100m fly at both the 2001 U.S. Spring and Summer Nationals, taking eighth in both races.
HIGH SCHOOL: Abercrombie was a prep All-American at Robert Louis Stevenson High in Monterey and was his swim team's MVP all four years in school ... He was also his school's male athlete of the year as a senior in 2000 ... Abercrombie competed at the U.S. Junior Nationals from 1998-2000 and won the 100m fly in 2000, posting an Olympic Trials qualifying time ... At the trials, he finished 50th in the 100m fly.
