Former Trojan track star Felix Sanchez defeated 2000 Olympic gold medalist Angelo Taylor with a time of 47.95--equalling the world's fastest mark in 2001--to win the 400-meter hurdles at the British Grand Prix in London on Sunday (July 22).

For Sanchez, the current USC record holder in the intermediates, the time was a personal best. Sanchez was an Olympic finalist in Sydney while competing for the Dominican Republic.

Taylor of the U.S. ran 48.36 to take second, followed by Al-Somaily Hadi Soua'an of Kazakhstan at 49.04.

Sanchez set the USC record (48.33) as a senior while winning the 2000 NCAA 400-meter hurdles title at Durham, N.C., in June of 2000. He was the first Trojan to win the event since Tom Andrews did it in 1977.
