THIS YEAR: Senior Raphael Asafo-Agyei is coming off an outstanding junior campaign and teams with Duane Solomon to give USC two of the top 800m runners in the country.
2006: Finished second in the 800m at the UCLA-USC Dual Meet with a time of 1:48.37...Also placed second to teammate Duane Solomon in the 800m at the Pac-10 Championships with a time of 1:49.07...Ran a season-best 1:48.10 to finish second to Solomon at the NCAA West Regional, as both runners surpassed the old meet-record time...Ran a 1:48.33 in the 800m semi-finals at the NCAA Championships, but did not qualify for the finals.
2005: Strong season saw him finish third at the Pac-10s with a personal best 1:47.88 and fifth at the NCAA West regionals in the 800m...also was part of USC's 4x400m relay team that placed fifth at the NCAA West Regional with a time of 3:11.52.
2004: Redshirted due to injury.
2003: Was one of the top freshman runners in the Pac-10...Won the West Regional Championship at Stanford in a time of 1:50.05 (he ran a then-PR 1:49.27 in the prelim)...Qualified for the NCAAs, but did not advance to the finals...Started the season slow but really hit his stride beginning with the Pac-10 Championships, where he finished an upset second in the 800m in a time of 1:49.89 ... Also was a key component of USC's 1600m relay squad.
HIGH SCHOOL: Asafo-Agyei was nagged by injuries during his senior season at Don Lugo High in Chino,Calif., but his credentials as a premier runner were established during an outstanding junior season, when he finished second in the 800m at both the California state meet and at the Youth National Championships...He also was the Arcadia champion, L.A. Indoor champion and CIF champion in the 800m as a junior...As a sophomore, he was part of Don Lugo's national champion 4 x 800m relay squad... Had PRs of 1:50.70 in the 800m and 48.21 in the 400m.
PERSONAL: Raphael was born on Oct. 20, 1983 in Aura, Ghana...He is a Public Policy and Management major at USC.
