Nelson, Larusdottir Named to 2007 NSCAA First Team All-Northeast Region Squad

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Two members of the Rhode Island women's soccer team were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as part of their 2007 NSCAA/adidas NCAA Division I Women's All-Northeast Regional team.

Deb Nelson and Dora Larusdottir were both selected to the First Team All-Region squad, for their outstanding play this past season.

"This is a wonderful individual honor for these two players, but is also a reflection of the accomplishments of our entire team." said head coach Zac Shaw.

Nelson, a forward from Chepachet, R.I., was named to the All-Atlantic 10 Conference First Team for the second consecutive year. She ranked sixth in the conference in points (11 goals, three assists - 25 points). Her 11 goals were tops on the Rams, while also ranking her third in the league. She ended her career with 35 goals and 87 total points. Nelson was also an First Team All-A-10 pick in 2006.

Larusdottir was also an All-A-10 First Teamer. She ranked third in the A-10 in points in 2007, totalling 28 on the season (10 goals, eight assists). Her 10 tallies and eight assists ranked her fifth overall in the conference in each respective statistical category. Last season, the Reykjavik, Iceland native was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree.

Rhody finished with a 12-6-2 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in Atlantic 10 play.
