The 2008 season marks Emily (Oleksiuk) Shaw's fourth season as an assistant coach at Rhode Island.

A standout collegiate player, Shaw finished her career at Penn State as the NCAA's all-time career leader in goalkeeper minutes played (8,853). A three-time NSCAA First Team All-American, she was named the Big 10 Conference's top goalkeeper for 4 straight years.

She set Penn State career records for saves (416), shutouts (43.75), and wins (81) as well as single-season school records for saves (132 in 1998), shutouts (15.4 in 2000), fewest goals allowed (10 in 2000), and goals against average (0.405 in 2000).

As a senior, the geography major was voted first team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Additionally, she was a two-time First Team Academic All-District selection.

She was invited to play in the Umbro Select College All-Star Classic in 2002 and was a member of the women's under-21 National Soccer Team from 1999-2002 where she trained and competed in Norway, Italy, France, Portgual and Mexico.

She also trained with the U.S. Women's National Soccer team as they prepared for the 1999 World Cup. She earned two caps with the National Team at the Algarve Cup in Portugal in 2001 (vs. Norway and Portugal). She also played in the WUSA with the 2002 WUSA Champion Carolina Courage.
