Rowing Team Set to Train in Florida

Jan. 3, 2008

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's rowing team will depart for a nine-day training trip to Deland, Fla. on January 10 and return on January 19. Fifty varsity and novice rowers will travel to `The Sunshine State' and put in as many miles as possible on Beresford Lake and the St. Johns River in hopes of improving their technique and speed.

"This is something our entire squad has been looking forward to," said head coach Shelagh Donohoe. "The first steps towards winning an Atlantic 10 Championship are taken here. We're going to get faster and we're going to improve technique, and we'll also have some inter-squad races."

The Rams hope to return to Rhode Island tanned, toned, and with a renewed sense of what has to be accomplished over the next two months of training. Their spring season kicks off on March 29 when they host Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire in the annual Yankee Cup race.
