Pat Skerry, assistant coach at the College of Charleston for the past two seasons, was named assistant coach at Rhode Island on July 7, 2005.

Last year Hoop Scoop Magazine rated Skerry as the second best assistant coach in the country among mid-major conferences.

A native of Medford, Mass., Skerry helped lead coach Tom Herrion's team to a 38-19 record the past two seasons including an 18-10 mark in 2004-05. Last year, the Cougars earned a berth in the preseason NIT and won the Saturn Shootout posting wins over St. Peter's and Harvard to win the tournament.

Prior to his tenure with the Cougars, Skerry spent three seasons with coach Rick Boyages at William & Mary (2000-03) as an assistant coach and two years on coach Rudy Keeling's staff at Northeastern (1999-00) as an assistant coach and chief recruiter.

When he was hired as head coach at Curry in 1996, he was the second youngest head coach in the nation. In his final season, he led the Colonels to a 13-12 record and a berth in the Colonial Conference playoffs, the team's first winning season in five years.

Skerry spent one season as an assistant coach at Stonehill (1995-96), helping lead the Chieftains to a 16-10 worksheet. He also worked as an assistant coach at Tufts for three seasons (1992-95), helping lead the Jumbos to two ECAC Tournaments and the team's first ever NCAA Division III Tournament in 1995.

A standout player at Tufts from 1989-92, he earned All-New England honors and was a two-year team captain for coach Bob Sheldon. He dished out a school-record 634 assists during his career, 13th most in Division III history. His 198 assists in 1990-91 is still the school's single-season record. He ranks fifth in school annals in steals with 95 during his career.

Skerry earned a bachelor's degree from Tufts in 1992 in psychology and a master's degree from Tufts in 1995 in education.

He is married to the former Kristen Rozanski of Auburn, Mass. The couple celebrated the birth of their first child, Ryan Patrick, on March 18,2005
