Woody: Coaches' TV Twinbill On Tap

Nov. 22, 2002

There was a standing room only crowd at Lucy's in downtown Chapel Hill Thursday night for John Bunting's last call-in radio show of the fall season. The first show of Matt Doherty's third winter at Carolina can be heard next Monday between 7 and 8 p.m., but their weekly TV shows will overlap this weekend on both Fox Sports South, which carries the shows statewide, and Durham's WTVD in the Triangle.

The schedule for this weekend ONLY will have Bunting's final TV show on Fox Sports South at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, followed at 9:30 a.m. by Doherty's first show of the new season.

Sunday on WTVD, Doherty's first show can be seen at 10:00 a.m., followed at Noon by Bunting's last show of the season.

Beginning next weekend (November 30 and December 1) Doherty's weekly basketball show can be seen statewide each Saturday at 9:00 a.m. on Fox Sports South, and each Sunday at Noon in the Triangle on WTVD.

His first weekly radio call-in show will air next Monday between 7 and 8 p.m. because of the team's travel to New York for the Pre-season NIT Wednesday and Friday and the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday.

Normally, Doherty's weekly radio show is heard on Thursday night, and it moves into that slot on December 5.

In addition to his weekly show, when he takes calls and questions at 1-866-TAR HEEL, the Tar Heel basketball coach has a daily series of five-minute shows which can be heard on a network of stations across North Carolina. The series can also be heard via this website.

This weekend, Bunting's show will feature an interview with Sam Aiken, who can become UNC's leading single season receiver, and a profile of former All-America defensive end Julius Peppers of the Carolina Panthers. He was one of eight Tar Heels chosen to the ACC's 50th Anniversary football team.

Jackie Manuel, who was outstanding on defense in Carolina's first two basketball victories, will be featured on Doherty's first show, and each week, starting next week with Lennie Rosenbluth, there will be a profile of the twelve Tar Heels named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary basketball squad. That's more representatives than any other conference school.
