Pyles Named First-Team All-ACC

Nov. 18, 2004

Senior outside hitter Molly Pyles was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team for her performance in the 2004 season, the league announced Wednesday. Pyles, a four-year starter from Hendersonville, N.C., has been honored by the ACC after each year of her career at Carolina. She was a member of the All-Freshman team in 2001 before earning second-team honors the last two seasons.

Pyles is nearing the end of one of the great careers in UNC volleyball history. As a freshman, Pyles played in every match for a 24-9 squad that won the ACC Tournament with a four-game win over Florida State, Friday's quarterfinal opponent. The 2002 Tar Heels finished with a best-ever 32-4 record and advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals for the first time in school history. Pyles earned honorable mention in the East Region from the American Volleyball Coaches Association for her play that season.

After another All-East Region selection in 2003, Pyles has risen to some lofty heights in 2004. On September 4 against Ohio State she recorded her 1,000th-career kill, and two weeks later she notched her 1,000th dig against Rice. Pyles will finish her time at Carolina in the all-time UNC top five for single-season digs as well as career digs.
