Carolina Sweeps Maryland 3-0 in ACC Volleyball Semifinals

    North Carolina will try for its third consecutive ACC volleyball title after defeating Maryland, 3-0, (30-26, 30-25, 35-33) in the semifinals of the 2001 ACC Volleyball Championship Saturday at Tully Gymnasium in Tallahassee, Fla.

    The No. 2 seeded Tar Heels (22-7) will meet No. 4 seed Florida State (17-11) at 1 p.m. Sunday. The game will be aired live on the Sunshine Network, Fox Sports and Comcast. The Seminoles advanced to the title game by defeating No. 1 seed Duke, 3-1.

    Nicole Reis led North Carolina with 15 kills. Laura Greene recorded 12 kills and a match-high 18 digs while Krista Buchholz added 11 kills. Eve Rackham led the Tar Heels in assists with 44.

    Carey Brennan led the Terrapins with a match-high 19 kills to go with 10 digs. Maria DiLivio contributed 17 kills and 16 digs while Willette Dority had 15 kills for Maryland.

    North Carolina and Florida State split their two meetings this season, each winning at home. The Tar Heels enter the match 0-3 against the Seminoles in ACC Championship play. The last time the two schools met in the ACC Championship was in the 1998 title match won by the Seminoles, 3-0.
