Tar Heels Wrap Up Home Slate With Cavaliers And Hokies

Nov. 9, 2007

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - A trio of seniors will play their final two matches in Carmichael Auditorium this weekend as the Tar Heels will take on Virginia and Virginia Tech on Friday and Saturday with both matches starting at 6 p.m. Ashley Board, Bekah Brinkley and Christie Clark will be honored before Friday's match against Virginia in what will be a revenge match for Carolina. The Tar Heels dropped a 3-0 decision in Charlottesville earlier in the year.

Last Week
The Tar Heels could not be stopped last week as they rolled off a perfect 3-0 week on the back of three consecutive sweeps at home over NC State, Boston College and Maryland. Christine Vaughen earned ACC Player of the Week honors for her performance during the week. The honor was Carolina's first ACC Player of the Week honor since the 2005 season. Vaughen finished the week with 32 kills as the Tar Heels improved their home record to 7-5 on the year.

Last Time Against The Cavs
Carolina was coming off a solid stretch where it had won three of its last four matches before it ran into Virginia and had to pay the price for a slow start with a 3-0 defeat. The sweep marked the only time the Tar Heels have been swept all season. Vaughen led all Tar Heels with nine kills on the day, the Simi Valley, Calif. native also chipped in four of Carolina's 11 blocks. Virginia outhit the Tar Heels and tallied 25 more kills to cruise to the 3-0 win.

Last Time Against The Hokies
Carolina rolled to a 3-1 win in Blacksburg as four different Tar Heels reached double-figures in kills led by Vaughen once again, who had 15 on the night. The teams split the opening two games before Carolina took over after a lackluster performance in game two picking up a pair of close games 30-28 and 30-27 for the win.

Closing In On A Record
Libero Brianna Eskola needs just 83 digs to break the Carolina all-time record for career digs of 1,579 set in 2004 by Caroline deRoeck. Eskola has recorded 1,517 digs in her three-year career and is on pace to potentially break the record against Wake Forest or Duke next week.
