Carolina Volleyball Hosts NC State Tuesday Night

Nov. 5, 2001

The University of North Carolina volleyball team plays its final home match of the season Tuesday night when it hosts NC State at 7 p.m. in Carmichael Auditorium. The Tar Heels (19-6, 11-3 ACC) enter the match tied with Duke at the top of the ACC standings, while the Wolfpack arrive in Chapel Hill with a 6-18 overall record and are 1-13 in the ACC.

Two Tar Heels are averaging at least four kills and three digs per game, Nicole Reis and Laura Greene. Reis (4.54 kills, 3.02 digs per game) leads UNC in kills, and Greene (4.07 kills, 3.74 digs per game) leads the squad in digs.

Greene also reached a milestone recently by recording her 1,000th career kill. She reached this achievement in the Georgia Tech match Nov. 2., and she has now totaled 1,015 for her career. She is also closing in on 1,000 career digs as she has totaled 965 so far at UNC.

Eve Rackham leads coach Joe Sagula's Tar Heels in assists with 10.27 per game, while Holly Strauss leads the squad in blocks with 1.59 per game.

State is led by Charece Williams who is averaging 3.62 kills and 2.55 digs per game. Lindi Sheppard leads the team in assists with 8.47 per game.

Carolina has won the last nine matches between the two teams and holds a 54-28 advantage all-time against NC State.

Tuesday's match is the final regular-season home match Krista Buchholz and Melissa Higgins. Buchholz, a middle hitter from Waupon, Wisc., and Higgins, a defensive specialist from Fairview, N.C., have been a part of Tar Heel teams that have compiled a 102-28 record and won two consecutive ACC titles and two ACC regular-season titles. They have also played in three-straight NCAA Tournaments at Carolina.
