Amy Beaver notched 21 kills and nine blocks in two matches as UNC volleyball
defeated Maryland and Boston College to earn Progress Energy Performer of the
Week honors for October 16-22, 2006. A senior from Powder Springs, Ga.,
Beaver had 10 kills and four blocks and hit .346 in the victory over
Maryland. In the sweep of BC, Beaver hit .348 with 10 kills and four
blocks. The home sweep marked the first two-match winning streak in league
play so far in 2006 for the Tar Heels.

Carlotti went 4-1 in singles this past week to reach the semifinals of the
Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mideast Regional Championships at the
Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Carlotti was seeded No. 17 in the 128-player
draw but won four straight matches to become the first UNC player to reach
the semifinals of the tournament since both Nick Monroe and Trystan Meniane
did so in 2003.

Tobin Heath continued her productive freshman year at Carolina as she scored
the insurance goal and assisted on the opening goal in No. 2 North
Carolina's 4-1 win over NC State Thursday. Heath's performance led Carolina
in clinching its sixth straight undisputed Atlantic Coast Conference
regular-season championship. Carolina improved to 9-0 in the ACC and 17-1
overall.
