Carolina Falls to Virginia In Five-Game Heartbreaker

Nov. 8, 2003

Box Score

Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina fell to Virginia in five games, 30-25, 26-30, 30-26, 26-30, 16-18. Sophomore outside hitter Dani Nyenhuis had a career high 28 kills and Junior outside hitter Molly Pyles had a career high 29 digs in the loss. The Tar Heels fall to 18-10 and 9-5 in ACC play.

"I think we are all hurting a little bit from this match, it is disappointing," said UNC head coach Joe Sagula. "We'll have to regroup. We have to learn how to finish games off, that was the problem. I was a little surprised in the fifth game that we let it slip away."

Nyenhuis had 21 digs to go along with her 28 kills and Pyles had 21 kills to go along with her career high in digs. Junior libero Caroline deRoeck also set a career mark in digs, with 28. Junior middle hitter Katie Wright had 12 kills and nine blocks, while senior middle hitter Aletha Green had 12 kills and seven blocks in her last ACC home game of her career.

UNC will next head to Wake Forest to play the Demon Deacons at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14.
