COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Tar Heels swept the Maryland Terrapins 3-0 (15-9, 15-12, 15-7) Saturday in College Park to win their eigth-consecutive match and open their ACC season 2-0. Shannon Smith tallied 12 kills and Casey Simpson recorded a double-double to lead the Heels and increase their record to 10-3.

UNC got out to a 5-0 lead in the first game, however Maryland responded and tied the game at six. Carolina closed the game on a 9-3 run for the win. In the second game, the Tar Heels jumped out to a 10-1 lead, only to see Maryland recover and pull to within 14-12 before UNC finally won 15-12. The third game was a solid 15-6 win for Carolina to complete the sweep and continue its winning streak.

The Tar Heels hit .360 for the match as All-ACC candidate Tori Seibert posted 11 kills on 16 attempts with only one error, for a hitting percentage of .625. UNC will now return to Chapel Hill to face Duke on October 1st at 7:00 p.m. in Carmichael Auditorium.
