Charlotte, N.C. - The Tar Heels volleyball team defeated the 49ers of UNC Charlotte 3-0 (15-3, 15-12, 15-12) Tuesday night to claim their sixth-consecutive victory and increase their record to 8-3. During the six-match stretch, UNC has lost only two games.

Seniors Shannon Smith and Asa Gustavsson led the Tar Heels in kills with 13 and hit for high percentages at .417 and .371, respectively. Tori Seibert and Casey Simpson were not far behind with ten kills each, and Seibert hit an outstanding .667. As a team, Carolina hit .362 for the match. Freshman setter Eve Rackham tallied 45 assists and also led the team in digs with eight.

Shannon Smith had six total blocks in the match, including two solo blocks bringing her career total to 103, third highest in Tar Heel history.

UNCC was led by Esra Akgun, who totaled nine kills as only six 49ers played in the match. The Tar Heels now lead the all-time series against the 49ers 12-0. UNC's next match will be their first conference match as they travel to Charlottesville, Va. to play the Virginia Cavaliers.
