CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina volleyball team defeated East Carolina 3-0 (15-6, 15-7, 15-4) at Carmichael Auditorium Tuesday night. The Tar Heels kept the Pirates to a .094 hitting percentage as Carolina produced a .307 hitting percentage.

Early in game one, the Pirates would answer each Carolina side out and the score was tied 3-3. One of Greene's seven kills took the Heels on a 3-0 run. ECU would only score three more points in the game as UNC rallied eight unanswered points and took the game 15-6.

Carolina jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game two before the Pirates would answer back with six unanswered points to tie the score 6-6. Reis hammered a kill to get the side-out and Carolina would go on another 6-0 run. Carolina allowed only one more point and a block from Rackham and Krista Buchholz would take game two, 15-7.

A determined ECU prolonged the first point as both teams exchanged side outs. Carolina would eventually go on a seven-point run led by kills from Reis and Greene to take a 10-1 lead. Defensively the Pirates struggled and Greene capped off game three and the match with one of her seven kills to win 15-4.

Lucinda Mason led East Carolina with 11 kills and five digs and Whitney Brawner with 11 digs. Lisa Donovan posted 22 assists for the Pirates.
