Box Score

Knoxville, TN - The University of North Carolina volleyball squad upped its 2000 record to 5-0 with a three-game sweep (15-3, 15-4, 15-4) of Jacksonville State at the Toyota Tennessee Classic on Friday (Sept. 8). Carolina's win was paced by sophomore outside hitter Laura Greene, who led the team with 15 kills, three digs and one block helping the Tar Heels to a team hitting percentage of .392.

UNC jumped out to an early lead scoring the first five points. Freshman Aletha Green saw action in all three games and provided a total of 9 kills. The Heels held Jacksonville to only three points in game one winning in 15-3.

Game two played out in similar fashion. Scoring on the first three serves by senior setter Liz Feldman, the Tar Heels allowed only four points to the Gamecocks. A kill by Greene ended the game, 15-4.

The Tar Heels ended the match, and game three, with a carbon-copy outcome of game two. With the score at 7-2, the Tar Heels went on an 8-0 run before allowing another point by Jacksonville. Carolina would only allow two more points to the Gamecocks before winning 15-4.

Carolina next match is Saturday (Sept 9) when they play Houston at 12:00 p.m. and again at 7:00pm against the host Lady Volunteers. Tennessee leads the overall series with Carolina, 8-2. The Tar Heels and Lady Vols last squared off in 1998, with the Tar Heels victorious in a 3-0 shutout.
