Southern California Trips Tar Heels In Season Opener

LONG BEACH, Calif. -The North Carolina volleyball team fell to No. 21 Southern California 3-0 (9-15, 3-15, 3-15) in their season-opener at the Long Beach State Tournament on Friday. Tori Seibert and Asa Gustavsson led the Tar Heels with eight kills each. The first game was tied at eight, however USC pulled away with four consecutive points to lead 12-8 en route to a 15-9 win. The Trojans recorded 47 kills compared to the Tar Heels' 28 and also made 46 digs compared to UNC's 29. Antoinette Polk and Amber Oliver led Southern California with 12 kills each. Freshmen Eve Rackham, Malaika Underwood and Laura Greene all saw action in their first collegiate match, with Rackham starting and playing in all three games.
