Mojzis, Cline Advance In NCAA Doubles Play With Upset Win
May 25, 2004 ATHENS, GA. - The University of North Carolina doubles team of Kendall Cline and Aniela Mojzis scored an upset win over the nation's No. 6-ranked team in the opening round of the NCAA doubles bracket at Henry Feild Stadium on the University of Georgia campus Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mojzis was eliminated in the singles bracket as she fell in the second round of the tournament to third-ranked Cristelle Grier of Northwestern. In doubles play, Cline, a junior from Dallas, Texas, and Mojzis, a junior from Cape Town, South Africa, upset the No. 6 ranked team of Luana Magnani and Carine Vermeulen of Southern California 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. Cline and Mojzis are ranked No. 19 in the nation. They advance to the second round of doubles on Wednesday where they will match up against 23rd-ranked Daniela Bercek and Lauren Fisher of UCLA. That team won its first round match 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 over Ashley Bentley and Robin Stephenson of Alabama.
Mojzis was downed in the second round of singles by Northwestern's Grier by a 6-0, 6-4 score as Grier advances to the NCAA Round of 16.
