Pinchbeck Falls in Quarterfinals of NCAA Tournament.

May 23, 2002

North Carolina's Kate Pinchbeck lost in the quarterfinals of the Individual NCAA Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday to No. 1 seed Bea Bielik of Wake Forest, 6-2, 6-4. Despite the loss, Pinchbeck earned All-America honors for the first time in her three-year career by reaching the round of 16.

Ranked 14th in the country entering the tournament, Pinchbeck knocked off Stanford's No. 1 player, Lauren Kalvaria to reach the quarterfinals. But, she could not overcome Bielik, who has been ranked the No. 1 player in the country much of the season. Pinchbeck ended her season 30-3.

Pinchbeck is the second Tar Heel All-America in as many years. Last season, Marlene Mejia was named a first-team ITA All-America by finishing with a Top 20 ranking.
