UNC Women's Tennis To Face Charleston In NCAA Tennis
April 30, 2003 The No. 11-ranked University of North Carolina women's tennis team has received a bid to the NCAA Tournament and will host first and second round matches at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill, May 10-11. First round matches on Saturday, May 10 are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Carolina (17-8) will face the College of Charleston at 2 p.m. and Clemson vs. Baylor will play at 10 a.m. The two winners will meet on Sunday, May 11 at 1 p.m.
This is Carolina's fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid and second under head coach Jen Callen. Last year, the Tar Heels advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by eventual champion Stanford.
The Tar Heels are led by seniors Kate Pinchbeck, 13th-ranked singles player in the country and four-time All-ACC performer Marlene Mejia. The UNC doubles team of Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline is ranked seventh in the country.
One qualifying team from each of the 16 host sites will compete in Gainesville, Fla. for the NCAA title.
