Four Earn All-ACC Tennis Honors
April 26, 2002 GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of North Carolina placed four players on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Team as selected by a vote of the league's nine head coaches. Kate Pinchbeck, Marlene Mejia, Julie Rotondi and Aniela Mojzis all earned All-ACC recognition for the No. 5-ranked Tar Heels (22-4), who won the ACC Tournament last week in Raleigh. Pinchbeck, the ACC Tournament MVP, is ranked No. 20 in the country. A native of Edmonton Park, Australia, Pinchbeck plays the No. 2 spot for the Tar Heels and lost just one match this season. This is her first All-ACC honor. Mejia, a junior from Lansdale, Pa., earned her third consecutive All-ACC honor. She is 15-9 overall while playing the No. 1 position. Rotondi is also a repeat selection, earning her second All-ACC honor. Playing at the No. 3 position, she was 22-4 overall and 7-1 in ACC regular-season action. Mojzis, a freshman from Cape Town, South Africa, was 19-7 overall at the No. 4 spot. Carolina led the way on the 12-member team with four players, followed by three Duke players, two from both Wake Forest and Clemson and one from Maryland. This is the first time Carolina has ever placed four players on the All-ACC squad. The previous high was three in 1987, 1990 and 1992. Wake Forest junior Bea Bielik. Bielik was named ACC Player of the Year, while Duke freshman Kelly McCain earned CC Rookie of the Year accolades. Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton earns ACC Coach of the Year honors.
