UNC Women's Tennis Named No. 4 Seed In 2004 ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 12th-ranked University of North Carolina women's tennis team will be the fourth seed in the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship. The Tar Heels will take on 39th-ranked and fifth-seed Georgia Tech on Friday, April 16 at noon at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.

North Carolina finished the regular season 18-7 and 4-4 in ACC play. Georgia Tech finished 11-8 overall and with a 4-4 record in the ACC. In ACC regular play, the Tar Heels defeated the Yellow Jackets 5-2 in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Friday, April 9.

Only three schools have ever won the ACC Women's Tennis Championship. Duke, who captured the championship last year, has won the title a total of 15 times. Clemson has won six and North Carolina has won five.

The 2004 ACC Tournament begins on Thursday when No. 8 seed Maryland will face No. 9 seed NC State at 3 p.m. The winner of that match will face No. 1 seed Clemson on Friday at 9 a.m. Other matches on Friday include a meeting between No. 2 seed Duke and No. 7 seed Virginia at 3 p.m. No. 3 seed Florida State will play No. 6 seed Wake Forest at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, the semifinal match between the winner of Clemson versus Maryland/NC State and UNC versus Georgia Tech will be played at 10 a.m. The lower bracket semifinal match between the winner of Duke versus Virginia and Florida State versus Wake Forest will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The championship match will be played on Sunday at 11 a.m.
