April 7, 2004

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina women's tennis team will wrap up its regular season this weekend when it hosts two ACC opponents at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels face Georgia Tech on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and Clemson on Saturday at 11 a.m. The match against the Clemson Tigers will be the final home match in the careers of Tar Heel seniors Lee Bairos and Kendrick Bunn.

Carolina (17-6, 3-3 ACC) heads into this weekend with a three-match winning streak. The Tar Heels swept NC State 7-0 at home on March 31. Then on the road, UNC edged the Cavaliers 4-3 on Saturday and defeated Maryland 5-2 on Sunday.

Georgia Tech (11-7, 4-2 ACC) is coming off a 4-3 loss to Florida State on April 3. The Yellow Jackets finish up their season against the Tar Heels on April 9 and fourth-ranked Duke on April 10. Carolina leads the all-time series between the programs 20-2. Last season, the Tar Heels defeated the Jackets 5-2 in Atlanta, Ga.

Clemson (17-3, 6-0) remains undefeated in Atlantic Coast Conference play after defeating the Seminoles 4-3 on Sunday in Tallahassee, Fla. The Tigers' remaining matches include road trips to Carolina and Duke. Clemson leads the all-time series 27-12. Last season, the teams met three times. The Tigers won the regular season match 4-3, but the Tar Heels came away with victories at the ACC Championships and in the second round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament.

In the ITA rankings released Tuesday, Carolina remained at the No. 12 spot. Junior Aniela Mojzis moved up one spot in the singles rankings to #28. The junior tandem of Mojzis and Kendall Cline also remained at the #23 spot in the doubles polls.
