Tar Heel Tennis Players Fall In Opening Round of NCAA Championships

STANFORD, CALIF. - North Carolina's two entrants in the NCAA singles championships were defeated in Round of 64 action Wednesday at the Taube Tennis Stadium on the Stanford University campus.

UNC's Raian Luchici, seeded in the 9-16 bracket, was upset in the opening round by Harel Srugo of Old Dominion 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-0.

On the women's side North Carolina's Jenna Long fell to a seeded player, Nicole Leimbach of TCU, 6-2, 6-3. Leimbach was seeded in the 9-16 bracket.

Both UNC doubles teams are in action Thursday. No. 4 seeded Raian Luchici and Brad Pomeroy played Adam Hubble and Ben Rogers of Tennessee in the Round of 32. North Carolina's Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long, seeded in the 5-8 bracket, play Hannah Grady and Jessica Weeks of Long Beach State in the opening round
