Duke Downs North Carolina to Win ACC Women's Tennis Title

RALEIGH, N.C. - The top-seeded Duke Blue Devils downed the North Carolina Tar Heels 4-2, to win the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the Raleigh Exchange Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.

The Tar Heels swept the doubles point with victories by Marlene Mejia and Lee Bairos at No. 2 and Kendrick Bunn and Kate Pinchbeck at No. 3. In singles play, the Blue Devils recorded wins at No. 1 from Kelly McCain, No. 2 Amanda Johnson, No. 4 Julie DeRoo and No. 6 Katie Granson to win the match. For her efforts, Duke's Julie DeRoo received Most Valuable Performer Honors.

The Tar Heels received their lone singles win from Aniela Mojzis at No. 3. With the loss, North Carolina drops to 17-8 on the year. With the victory, Duke improves to 26-2.
