No. 12 UNC Women's Tennis Grabs Third ACC Win At No. 68 Maryland 5-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill women's tennis team defeated Maryland 5-2 at the Tennis Center at College Park on Sunday. The No. 12 Tar Heels move on to 17-6 overall and pull to an even 3-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The 68th-ranked Terrapins fall to 6-9 overall and 0-5 in the ACC. North Carolina took the doubles point by sweeping all three matches. The 23rd-ranked junior pair of Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline won 8-3 at the No. 1 seed over Ramona But and Brooke Rogers. UNC's senior duo, Lee Bairos and Kendrick Bunn, also took the second-seeded match 8-3 against Chloe Chavardes and Jennifer Dent. Bairos and Bunn are on a five-match winning streak. And the freshman duo Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long beat Neda Minheva and Marianne Baker at the three spot 8-4. In singles play, #60 But upset #29 Mojzis 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 1 seed. However, the Tar Heels won four other singles matches to take the win. Bairos cruised past Marianne Baker 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 match. At No. 4, Cline won 6-3, 6-3 over Neda Mihneva. For her second win of the weekend, Carolina freshman Sara Anundsen defeated Masha Senic 7-5, 6-1 as the No. 5 seed. And at No. 6, Bunn took Chavardes 6-4, 6-3.
The Tar Heels will wrap up the season with two ACC home matches this weekend. Georgia Tech, ranked 41st in the nation, visits Friday at 2:30 p.m. Clemson, ranked 21st, will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The match against the Tigers will be the last regular season match for seniors Bairos and Bunn. Both matches will be played at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
