Batterymates Participate in YES Clinic at WCWS

June 13, 2005

University of North Carolina softball players Crystal Cox and Whitney Gelin joined coaches Donna J. Papa and Beverly Smith at the NCAA's Youth Education through Sports (YES) Clinic at the recently-held Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, Okla. The two student-athletes spent the weekend working with boys and girls ages 10-18, and spent their free time attending the World Series.

The NCAA YES Clinics emphasize hands on instruction in sports, conditioning and life skills at no cost to the participants. Coaches and student-athletes discuss the fun of sport and life.

Whitney Gelin listens along with some of her kids.

Each coach invited to participate was able to bring select members of their team to participate in conducting the clinics. Student-athletes were in charge of individual groups of 14-16 young poeple, taking them from station to station and assisting the coaches with individual skill activities. The clinics, which were held Saturday and Sunday, hosted over 400 boys and girls.
