Carolina Softball Has Best-Ever Academic Semester

May 31, 2005

Ten members of the University of North Carolina softball team earned at least a 3.0 grade point average for the 2005 spring semester. Julia Bove, a junior infielder from Charlotte, N.C., led the way with a 4.0. She also recorded a 4.0 during the fall semester. Ashley Allen, Crystal Cox, Anna Evans, Joslin Higgins, Jaclyn Holden, Jennifer Jacobs, Marissa May, Theresa Nicholas and Alison Yin all earned at least a 3.0.

"I am really pleased with the academic performance of the team this spring," head coach Donna J. Papa said Tuesday. "To have ten people achieve a 3.0 or above while playing 60-plus games, with a number of them on the road, is a tribute to their discipline and dedication to their academics. They have represented the athletic department and Carolina softball very well."

The Tar Heels finished second in the Ann Arbor Regional in this year's NCAA Championship, compiling a 2-2 record.
