Streete, Cox Named to Waco NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team
May 25, 2004 North Carolina senior first baseman Dionne Streete and sophomore pitcher Crystal Cox were named to the Waco NCAA Regional's All-Tournament team after both players had strong performances this past week. Streete hit .385 and had a .615 slugging percentage for the tournament, while Cox pitched 26 2/3 innings, striking out 19 batters and recording a 0.53 ERA. Carolina went 1-2 in NCAA Regional play. Cox earned a spot on the team after pitching two complete games at the NCAA Tournament, keeping the Tar Heels tied at zero until the final inning of two extra-inning games. Against third-seeded Baylor, Cox pitched a shutout for 15 innings before finally allowing a run in the 16th, as the Tar Heels fell 1-0. She struck out eleven batters, while only allowing four hits and no walks in 15 1/3 innings pitched. Against fourth-seeded Seton Hall, Cox again went the distance through extra innings and didn't allow a run until the 12th. She struck out eight batters, allowing seven hits and three walks in 11 1/3 innings, as Carolina fell 1-0 again. For the tournament she pitched 26 2/3 innings in just two games, allowing two runs on 11 hits and three walks, striking out 19 batters. Streete went 5-13 in the three games played in Waco as she had a double and a triple and totaled eight bases. Streete also had 39 putouts defensively and a .975 fielding percentage for the tournament. On the season Streete finished with a .321 batting average, eight home runs and 21 doubles. The team is consisted of 12 players from the eight team regional.
