Kristin DePlatchett Named Academic All-America

STAMFORD, CONN. - North Carolina women's soccer goalkeeper Kristin DePlatchett, a senior from Harborcreek, Pa., was named Friday to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Women's Soccer University Division Team. DePlatchett is the first women's soccer player named to the team since All-America Cindy Parlow made the squad in 1997.

DePlatchett majors in economics at UNC and has a 3.87 cumulative grade point average. DePlatchett has shared starting duties in the goal for Carolina during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. This past season she finished second in the nation in goals against average with a 0.40 tally.

The Academic All-America squad is a program of the College Sports Information Directors of America in conjunction with Verizon. College sports information directors around the country nominate players for the squad and then voting by members SIDs in eight districts around the country determine district All-America Teams. The national first, second and third teams are then chosen by a national committee of sports information directors.
