Chalupny, O'Reilly, White Earn All-America Honors From Soccer Buzz

Jan. 8, 2005

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Sophomore forward Heather O'Reilly, junior midfielder Lori Chalupny and junior midfielder Kacey White were all named Saturday to the All-America Teams tapped by Soccer Buzz internet magazine. The teams were chosen by a national vote of NCAA Division I coaches. O'Reilly and Chalupny were named first-team All-Americas by Soccer Buzz and White was named to the third team.

In addition, forward Jaime Gilbert (North Andover, Mass.) was named a first-team Freshman All-America by Soccer Buzz. Gilbert had a stellar novice season for the Tar Heels in 2004 as she was the second-leading scorer on the squad with 11 goals and 12 assists for 34 points as UNC finished the campaign with a 20-1-2 record.

O'Reilly (East Brunswick, N.J.) finished as the team's leading scorer in 2004 with 37 points (13 goals and 11 assists), despite missing the first two matches of the season while playing with the 2004 U.S. gold medal winning United States Olympic Team. Chalupny (St. Louis, Mo.), named earlier this week as the Soccer Buzz Southeast Region Player of the Year, was stellar in the midfield all year as she finished with six goals and five assists.

White (Arlington, Texas) led the Tar Heels in assists with 14 in 2004 and she also scored five goals, including a three-of-three performance on penalty kick opportunities.

All four All-America selections will return to Coach Anson Dorrance's team for the 2005 season.
