Jan. 8, 2003

OAKLAND, CALIF. - North Carolina defender Catherine Reddick was named Wednesday as one of Soccer America's Most Valuable Players for the 2002 season. The 11-woman MVP squad is the working equivalent of the Soccer America first team All-America Team for women's soccer.

Previously this year Reddick was also named an All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Reddick played in 17 games for the Tar Heels in 2002, missing 10 matches while playing with the United States National Team in various fall tournaments. Reddick scored six goals for the Tar Heels and had five assists for 17 points.

Reddick helped lead the Tar Heels to a 21-2-4 record. Carolina won its 14th straight Atlantic Coast Conference championship and reached the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd straight year.
