CHAPEL HILL -- University of North Carolina senior defender Jazmine Norton has been named a second-team All-America by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association and US Lacrosse, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. Norton's honor comes on the heels of being named first-team All-South region last week.
Carolina has now had 13 players earn All-America honors in just eight years as a varsity program.
Carolina's co-captain during the 2003 season, Norton started all 16 Tar Heel games in 2003. She typically marked the opposing team's best offensive player this season and finished the year with 27 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers. She started every Carolina game during the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
NCAA Division I national champion Princeton placed four players on the first team and national semifinalist Maryland had three selections. Six Atlantic Coast Conference players earned first-team honors, while four were named to both the second and third teams.
The awards are sponsored by Brine and this marks the second consecutive year the two organizations have issued a joint All-America team.
