CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will play an NCAA Tournament quarterfinal game versus No. 2 seed Duke on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium on the Duke campus. The winner will advance to next weekend's NCAA Final Four in Annapolis, Md.

The Tar Heels advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6 win in triple overtime at No. 7 seed Penn State on Thursday May 12. Duke defeated Richmond, 16-4, in the first round on Thursday in Durham, N.C.

Sunday's game will mark the third meeting between UNC and Duke this season. The Tar Heels beat Duke, 12-11, on March 12 in Durham. Two weeks ago, the Blue Devils beat Carolina 11-9 in the ACC Tournament semifinals in Baltimore, Md.

Sunday's game also is a Carlyle Cup event in the season-long, all-sport competition between North Carolina and Duke. The winner of Sunday's contest will earn 1.0 points in the standings. UNC currently leads Duke, 15.5 to 10.5.

The NCAA semifinals and final will be played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland; hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. The Tar Heels are making their seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years as a varsity program.

Carolina is 14-5 this season and ranked No. 11 in this week's IWLCA poll. UNC reached the semifinals of the ACC Tournament in Baltimore two weeks ago before losing to eventual ACC champ Duke.

ACC champion Duke is 16-3 this season and ranked No. 2 in this week's IWLCA poll.
