Carolina Hosts Duke Tuesday

Feb. 2, 2004

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - With a Carlyle Cup point on the line, the North Carolina wrestling team (3-6) hosts rival Duke (4-4) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carmichael Auditorium. The winner of the match will receive one point in the all-sports competition between the Tar Heels and Blue Devils. UNC currently holds a 7-4 advantage for the 2003-04 academic year.

Carolina is coming off a loss to UNC Greensboro Jan. 31, while Duke split with Davidson and Chattanooga last weekend. UNC stands 1-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference action and is 0-1 at home this season, with a loss to NC State on Jan. 14. This bout is the Blue Devils' first conference action of the season.

The Tar Heels have won at least 30 straight matches against Duke, according to available records. Last season, Carolina won 29-9 in Durham.

Senior heavyweight Ryan Adams (22-9, 7-2 duals) and junior 184-pounder Mark Canty (19-12, 6-3 duals) continue to lead the way for the Tar Heels, while junior Venroy July (197 pounds) and freshman Drew Forshey (125 pounds) have also been solid for head coach C.D. Mock.

Following Tuesday's match, Carolina heads to Washington, D.C., to take on American, Eastern Michigan and Navy on Saturday.
