Tar Heel Assistant Coach Tripp Phillips Earns 12th Seed at Wimbledon
June 25, 2007 London, England - Carolina Assistant Coach Tripp Phillips and doubles partner Ashley Fisher are the 12th seeded team as Wimbledon begins this week in London. Phillips and Fisher face Germany's Michael Berrer and Michael Kohlmann in a first round match that likely will be played later this week. Phillips is appearing in his eighth grand slam doubles event. Last year Phillips and Fisher advanced to the 2nd round of Wimbledon and the semifinals of the U.S. Open. He is currently ranked 40th in the world in doubles. Phillips currently serves as the full-time Assistant Coach at the University of North Carolina. Phillips played full-time professionally for five years after earning All-American honors at North Carolina in 2000. Last fall Phillips joined Head Coach Sam Paul's staff and led the Tar Heels to their highest national ranking (#5) in school history culminating in a 24-4 overall record.
