UNC Fencing Present Annual Awards:

The UNC varsity fencing team had its annual awards presentations on Monday, April 19 following the UNC All Sports Banquet. Special awards were give in a variety of categories. Twenty nine women, and twenty seven men received Monogram Awards. Outstanding Rookie Award receipients were Eric Gardner (men's foil), Jamaal Green and Nathan Danneman (men's epee), Travis Wherry (men's saber), Lindsey Keiter and Dani Baum (women's foil), Ayca Guralp (women's epee) and Cristina Garcia (women's saber.) The award winners for Most Improved were Fletcher Tove (men's foil), Drew Goodson and Ben Garner (men's epee), Nick Becketti and Daniel Ferguson (men's saber), Annabelle Pereria (women's foil), Sallie Lampron (women's epee) and Jen Ritchy, Beth Sheehy and Carolyn Hack (women's saber.) Outstanding Seniors were C.J. Webster (men's foil), Joe Walker (men's epee), Adam Shupe (men's saber), Ivona Puszkarczuk (women's foil), Ivonna Ferrer (women's epee) and Liz Rainbolt (women's saber.)
The Most Outstanding fencer selections were Steve Piantadosi (men's foil), Matt Jednak (men's epee), Wes Newkirk (men's saber), Ivona Puszkarczuk (women's foil), Courtney Krolikoski (women's epee and Liz Rainbollt (women's saber.) Coaches Awards for special merit were given to C.J. Webster and Eric Gardner (men's foil), Drew Goodson and Matt Jednak (men's epee), Wes Newkirk, Nick Becketti and Whitney Reeds (men's saber), Sanja Bosman and Christen Steele (women's foil), Jessie Polini and Emily Harrison (women's epee) and Jen Hunt and Jen Ritchy (women's saber.) Most Valuable awards were awarded to freshman Joe Pipkin of the men's team (saber) and to freshman Courtney Krolikoski (epee) and senior Liz Rainbolt (saber) of the women's team. This years men's team finished with 20 wins and 12 losses in dual meets, while the women compiled a 20 win and 11 loss season. Coach Miller's overall record in 36 years as head coach of the Carolina Fencing team now stands at 993 wins and 415 losses.
