Peacocks Drop Two to Truman




Truman State swept a doubleheader from Upper Iowa by scores of 8-3 and 8-0 Tuesday afternoon. The losses dropped the Peacocks to 13-19 on the season.
 
In the opener, Truman State (17-10) scored three times in the top of the first before Upper Iowa got on the board. Priscilla Rubalcava reached on a fielder's choice to bring in Stephany Daubenspeck in the bottom of the first. TSU responded with five runs in the second for an 8-1 lead.
 
Jena Kilburg's infield single scored Andrea McShane in the second inning for UIU. McShane led the inning off by drawing a walk and stole second base. The Peacocks scored their final run in the fourth. Marcy Esparza scored on a Jessie Gress run-scoring single. UIU then loaded the bases in the inning but could not add any runs.
 
Kacie Estes took the loss. Angie Weber gave up only one hit and struck out eight in 4.2 innings of relief. Jena and Katie Kilburg each had two hits.
 
Upper Iowa managed only four hits in the second game. Kami Appelt had two of the four hits. Truman State scored a run in six of the seven innings. Weber took the loss.
 
Upper Iowa visits Winona State Thursday.
