Peacocks Win Game in Second Half

The Peacocks lined up against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State University on Sunday afternoon in a Northern Sun match up. The match went to halftime with the score tied at 0-0. The Peacocks controlled the first 45 minutes with a 18-3 shot difference. While Upper Iowa fired 18 shots, they only made the goalie work to save a few of the attempts.

Upper Iowa scored the first goal of the game in the 48th minute. Jodee Loterbauer took a pass from Sam White, crossed the field with the ball, and then fired a high-arcing shot that found a small hole between the Mustang keeper's hand and the crossbar. The Peacocks followed the first goal with a second goal only four minutes later. Jenny Lee drove a corner kick into the box which found the foot of Cara Mauldin, who hammered the ball into the back of the net.

The Mustangs mounted the beginnings of a comeback just two minutes after falling behind 2-0. Noelle Bergman went one-on-one with Peacock goalkeeper Sarah Hiatt. After an unlucky deflection, Bergman found herself alone in front of the net. She tapped the ball in to bring the score to 2-1.

Following the victory Coach Leonard said, “Today’s victory capped off a good weekend for us. We made a statement to the rest of the conference teams that we will be in the mix for the rest of the season. The team came out and played hard from the start and we dominated the match from beginning to end.”

Upper Iowa takes the field again on October 7th at Concordia University at 11 a.m. and on October 8th at Minnesota State-Moorhead at 1 p.m. Upper Iowa improved its record to 5-5-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the Northern Sun.
