The Upper Iowa men's basketball team earned their first victory of the conference season with a 76-72 win over Southwest Minnesota State. The Peacocks were fueled by their point guard, Jude Roybal, who scored 22 points and dished out 7 assists. Matt Lesan netted 20 points and A.J. Adkins scored 15 points for the Peacock offense. Nick Kramer and Adkins cleaned 7 rebounds each. The home team held off a late rally to defeat the Mustangs and improve their NSIC record to 1-4. The Peacock women's team came up two points short in their effort to put a notch in the conference win column. The team trailed by seven halftime, 32-25. The Peacocks erased the deficit and tied the game at 41-41. The two teams battled back and forth with the last tie coming at 58-58 with 58 seconds on the clock. The Mustangs' Liz Grider hit two free throws with 5 seconds to play and gave the visitors the victory. Kim Thompson came off the bench to score 14 points, while Christa Hammel chipped in 10. Both teams will travel to Concordia-St. Paul next Friday night, Jan. 11, and to MSU Moorhead next Saturday night, Jan. 12. Games will tip off at 6 and 8 p.m. both nights. |
