Upper Iowa Battles Tigers for First Win of 2007

The Peacock men’s soccer team played host to the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan College in their first home match of the 2007 season. Upper Iowa took a 1-0 lead and never trailed in the second half as they held on for a 3-2 victory, their first of the year. The Peacocks, who have struggled for much of the season on the offensive half of the field, fired 14 shots, at the Tiger keeper.

Craig Signorin put the home team on the board just before halftime. The junior forward took a pass from Josh Andersen and struck a shot from just inside the box to the top right corner of the frame. The Peacocks jogged off the field for halftime leading 1-0.

Iowa Wesleyan evened the match in the 64th minute on an unassisted, long strike that soared past the outstretched hands of Peacock keeper, Andy Youde. Jaryd White scored a goal to insure that momentum would stay in Upper Iowa’s favor. White found the back of the net off a great pass from Jacob Rasbeck, which he drilled to the top right corner from 10 yards out. Rasbeck got into the scoring act in the 82nd minute. The junior forward finished an assist from Signorin beating the goalie with a drive that hit the inside of the left post and shot to the back of the net.

The Tigers made the game interesting by scoring one minute later and closing the gap to 3-2 with 8 minutes to play, but the defense and goalie Andy Youde (8 saves) played solid to claim their first victory of the season.
