Kevin Nicholls is in his first season as an assistant women's basketball coach at USC Upstate. He will assist in all phases of the Upstate women's basketball program. Nicholls comes to Upstate after serving as an assistant coach at North Greenville University from 1999-2007. He started as a student assistant coach while earning his undergraduate degree in Sports Management at the school. He graduated in 2002 and stayed on with the program. He was the recruiting coordinator and was intricately involved in all phases of the program, including planning practice schedules, scheduling games, keeping statistics, and assisting with the maintenance of the budget. He took a brief break from coaching at North Greenville from 2002-03 while he spent the season as an intern at the University of Virginia as a volunteer assistant in their women's basketball program. He got his coaching start as the boys' basketball coach at the Oakland School. A native of Charlottesville, Va., Nicholls attended Piedmont Virginia Community College and Radford University before transferring to North Greenville to finish his education. He has also worked as a mental health associate at the Spring Brook Behavioral Center and as a lifeguard at Pleasant Ridge Park. He is married to the former Rachael Heisler and couple resides in Travelers Rest, S.C.
