Sophomore Bethany Nickless was named the Golden1/ucsbgauchos.com Student-Athlete of the Week Tuesday after finishing second in the 3,000m steeplechase at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Provo, Utah over the weekend. Nickless qualified for the NCAA National Championships in the process.

The Huntington Beach, Calif., native crossed the finish line in a time of 10:33.54, a new UCSB record when adjusted for altitude. Nickless has dropped her Steeplechase mark by over twenty seconds in 2006 and will enter the National Championships in Sacramento ranked 14th in the country, unofficially.
