SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's tennis team defeated Big West Rival Pacific 5-2 Saturday at the UCSB Tennis Stadium behind strong singles play from Charlotte Scatliffe, Leslie Damion and Brittany Kausen.

Resuming Big West Conference competition, UCSB improved to 12-7 in dual meet action and 5-1 in league play, while the UOP dropped to 9-8 overall.

The Gauchos easily won the doubles point after defeating the Tigers in all three double contests, 9-7, 8-0 and 8-2.

After senior Marielle Gruenig did her thing at No. 1 singles defeating Natalia Kostenko 6-0, 6-2, Pacific responded with two victories at No. 2 and No. 3 to even the score at two points apiece. Santa Barbara then won the next three matches in straight sets to wrap up the victory. Scatcliffe defeated Clara Schuhmacher 6-2, 6-1. Damion handled Helen Schnieider 6-0, 6-4 and Kausen throttled Samantha Rodis-Janero 6-1, 6-0, giving the Gauchos their fifth victory in their last seven matches.

UCSB continues Big West Conference action on Friday, April 7, when they visit UC Irvine at 1:30 p.m.
