Santa Barbara, CA.- The Women Gymnastics team welcomed in Sacramento State and Towson University for the first home meet of the young season. Sacramento took the team competition with a score of 189.900, followed in second by Towson University who scored 187.675. UCSB rounded out the team competition taking third place with a score of 183.175. Jenn Baierlein of Towson University won the individual all- around competition, taking home first in the uneven parallel bars and the balance beam. Towson swept first place in all of the individual categories, thanks to Kristen Presutti who won the vault and floor exercise. The Gauchos were led by Freshmen Lesley Ross, who took home second place in the vault competition with a score of 9.575, and Brittany Gard who placed third on the floor exercise with a score of 9.700. Junior Ryanne Strohm placed six in the individual all around but her highest finish was 9th on the balance beam with a score of 9.300. The highest Gaucho finisher on the balance beam was Freshmen Lesley Ross who scored a 9.550. On the uneven parallel bars UCSB's highest finisher was Alyssa Balthazar who scored 9.425, which landed her in 8th place. The Gauchos are encouraged by the improvement from last weeks meet at UC Davis, when their team score was a low 171. They hope to build on this momentum next Saturday when the welcome in Cal State Fullerton at 7pm.
