In her first season at UCSB she guided the Gauchos to a fifth place showing at the USA Collegiate National Championships where four Gauchos were named All-American.
Fenton competed at UCLA from 1992-1995. The 1995 Bruin team finished fourth at the NCAA Championships, highlighted by Fenton's 9.825 score on the balance beam. As a team captain in 1994, Fenton helped lead the Bruins to a top five finish at the NCAA Championships. In 1993, Fenton scored a perfect 10.0 to capture the bars title at the Pac-10 Championships. Her perfect score not only set a new school record but was the first 10.0 by a Bruin on bars in UCLA history. She received First Team All-Pac-10 honors for bars in 1993, finishing with a score of 9.75 or higher in 12 of 14 appearances that year.

She also competed on the club level in Utah, setting a Utah state record on bars with a 9.9 showing in 1990. Fenton was a member of the USGF Junior National Team from 1984-86 and placed first on bars at the 1987 U.S. Olympic Festival.
